Comic artists have local comic shops.

Authors have local book stores.

Artists and craftsmen have makers' markets.

Musicians have local cafes, bars, venues, record stores...

Where do local game devs go?

In a world where digital download is king, many indie games live online. But what if they could also live at your local game store, hobby shop, craft market, or library? What if you, my dear indie dev, are a valuable part of your local art scene?

This is a candidly written 43-page guide chock full of information for  game devs looking to bring their digital games to physical spaces and the local businesses who want to participate.

In this guide:

  • Bridge the communication gap between indie devs and local businesses.
  • Learn what, where, and how to make and display promotional materials for your game at local markets or shops.
  • Learn why it's important to represent small indie games in physical spaces.
  • Learn how to get in touch with your game's demographic in your local scene.
  • Imagine, if only for a moment, a more welcoming world for indie games.

The sequel to HOLDING THE BABY: how to make and distribute games in the age of digital download dominance, a DIY guide to physical copies.

Not a gamedev, but found this super insightful as a creative in general and will share it with my game-making friends :) Thank you for making this!

thank you for your comment!!! i really hope your game dev friends find some use for this zine <3

a super detailed guide! the photos are really good for illustrating how people can do their own setups at events &c. & also just overall lovely & aspirational & makes me want to dream a bit bigger about what we could do as indie devs! it would be very cool to have more indie devs connected to the local community... 🥺 (i hope your local goth shop accepts your games in the future!!)

tysm!!! i’m so glad the photos help, i was really proud of my setup and i was like, “man this is so cool, if i knew this is what my games were gonna look like when i was a kid just messing around in rpgmaker, i would have freaked out.” so i hope i can inspire many people with it 🥺 <3

FANTASTIC THANK YOU
